Dual-Role NCSO Safety Officer + Medic | Vital Safety

Vital Safety dual-role NCSO Safety Officer and Advanced First Aid Medic in high-visibility PPE standing beside a Mobile Treatment Centre unit on an oil and gas worksite in Alberta

Why pay for two people when one highly qualified professional can do both — and do them well?

For oil & gas, pipeline, mining, and construction operations across Western Canada, every position on site adds cost: wages, lodging, transport, per diems. At Vital Safety, we help operators cut that cost without cutting corners on safety or medical coverage.

We provide dual-role NCSO Safety Officers combined with Advanced First Aid Medics — one trained, certified, experienced crew member filling two critical functions on your site.

What a Dual-Role NCSO + Medic Brings to Your Site

1. NCSO / CSO Safety Officer Duties

Our safety officers hold the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation issued through the Alberta Construction Safety Association, recognized across Canadian industry. On site, they handle:

  • Site safety compliance and integration of safety measures into project planning
  • Hazard assessments and risk mitigation
  • Toolbox talks, safety meetings, and crew engagement
  • Safety inspections and detailed reporting on incidents and corrective actions
  • Liaison with project managers and supervisors

2. Advanced First Aid Medic Duties

The same person is a fully qualified Advanced First Aid medic, on call throughout work hours to:

  • Respond immediately to medical emergencies on site
  • Administer first aid and emergency medical care
  • Coordinate with external medical services and transfer to medical facilities when needed
  • Operate from a MTC (Mobile Treatment Centre) unit, fully stocked with medical equipment

Why This Saves You Money — Without Compromising Coverage

Hiring two separate workers for these roles is the traditional approach. It’s also expensive. With one dual-role professional, your project benefits from:

  • Lower on-site headcount without losing safety or medical capability
  • Reduced lodging, transport, and per-diem costs — one bed, one truck seat, one meal allowance
  • Seamless communication — your safety officer IS your medic, so no handoffs between roles when something goes wrong
  • Faster emergency response — the medic is already on site, already familiar with hazards, already part of the team

For remote operations in Northern Alberta and BC, those savings add up fast over a multi-week project.

Certifications Our People Hold

  • NCSO or CSO (Construction Safety Officer)
